Lifting the Veil: When the Veil between worlds lifted, mundane humans and paranormal creatures ended up on an inevitable collision course. Now, over a decade later, humans and a wide variety of mythical beings do their best to make their lives together work—and maybe find love—on this transformed Earth.

All the stories in this Lifting the Veil series are theme-oriented. The theme in this first book is the conflict between the romantic ideal of love vs. the practicalities of an arranged marriage. Though love and marriage are hardly mutually exclusive goals, in this story they don't mesh well at all. Read the story to find out more.

Wanting this story to remain in a contemporary setting, I designed an event to have taken place a decade ago: The Great Unveiling. I will explore this world-changing incident further as the series progresses.

This book, The Wolfing Way, released on May 16, 2012. This is a paranormal M/M erotic romance, the first in the Lifting the Veil series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"Lifting the Veil: Book One

Kris Ellis thought that the time of arranged marriages was long past—but that was before the Great Unveiling revealed creatures of myth living among humans. Now a routine medical test has determined that Kris has a mate, a werewolf named Rafael King.

Kris is fresh out of college and has plans for his life. None of them include being tied forever to someone he’s never met. But then Rafe calls him, and Kris starts to reconsider. After all, what must it be like to wait for your soul mate for two hundred years?

Rafe is patient, strong, and kind, not to mention attractive. True to what Kris has heard about mates, sparks fly the second they meet. But Kris and Rafe are very different, and the werewolf way of life is dangerous. Is the fight for love really worth it?"

Here's the blurb of La via dei lupi, which is the Italian translation of The Wolfing Way:

Rafe è paziente, forte e gentile, e pure affascinante.

Here's the blurb of La voie du loup, which is the French translation of The Wolfing Way:

Here's the blurb of Nach Art der Wölfe, which is the German translation of The Wolfing Way:

Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"Wow! Susan Laine knocked this one out of the ballpark! I loved the fresh storyline and the intense chemistry between the two heroes. Between the fast paced storyline and the sexy shifters, I quickly read this book in one setting and wished for more when it ended. -- If you are looking for a sexy and unique shifter story, The Wolfing Way is a perfect choice for you. It gave me several hours of an enjoyable escape from my everyday life and since this is the first book in a series, I look forward to reading the second book in the series in the future. Highly Recommended!"

Five Stars by The Romance Reviews:

"Fast paced, well written, and full of adventure, romance, humor and drama, the characters in THE WOLFING WAY are expertly developed. My heart ached for Rafe and Kris as they worked to process the emotions their unexpected mating brought forward. The honesty in their dialogue made me laugh out loud, and the drama elicited an occasional gasp! Their rough and tumble journey towards love is sure to delight. With just enough sex appeal to make the story pop, this M/M romance is guaranteed to enthrall any reader of paranormal romance who looks for a little spice, but nothing so erotic that it overwhelms the storyline."

Four Star Review by Sensual Reads:

"Susan Laine embarks on a new series with Lifting the Veil 1: The Wolfing Way. This promises to be an exciting series. -- I enjoyed the concept Susan Laine used for her story. What would happen if a veil lifted and we found another world out there? A world with different rules and a new way of doing things? Read The Wolfing Way by Susan Laine to find out the answer to some of those questions. Her new series promises to be fun and fascinating with books that will capture our interest."

Four Star Review by Joyfully Jay:

"The Wolfing Way veers sharply away from what I consider to be a formulaic approach to the paranormal and then gives it a subtle twist. The story is engaging and the author’s deft handling of establishing a world upon which she can build future stories is clever and entertaining. -- I look forward to reading more in this new series by Susan Laine. If The Wolfing Way is any indication of how this series will proceed, I must go on record s stating that I am a fan already!"

Review by MM Good Book Reviews:

"I found this to be quite a refreshing story. The whole idea of a world where every human is aware of all paranormal and mythical creatures, and together have come up with a registry where humans and paranormals can be matched is good. But, what is even better is that not all the people who are matched wanted to be matched. -- A very good story that interested me from the start. -- I will recommend this to those who love the paranormal, shifters, hot sex, confused men, an unexpected attack, some hot sex and a happy ever after."

This book, Genie's Wish, released on Aug 6, 2012. This is a paranormal M/M/M adventure romance, the second in the Lifting the Veil series. This is available in e-book and paperback formats from Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"Lifting the Veil: Book Two

Ten years ago, the Great Unveiling revealed the presence of supernatural beings living on Earth. But the residents of the ruined city discovered in Majlis al-Jinn are long dead—or so junior archaeologist Pip Butler thought until he accidentally unleashed a very naked genie named Jinn.

Even though he’s been shyly pining for his charismatic supervisor, Val Velde, Pip has a hard time refusing Jinn’s flirtatious advances. He barely has time to even consider the fact that he has an all-powerful genie and three glorious wishes at his fingertips when ruthless mercenaries sweep down on the dig to collect the most valuable artifact of all—Jinn’s lamp.

So Pip, Val, and Jinn have to work together in a race against the clock to discover the secrets of the ancient city, free their captive colleagues, and keep Jinn from the mercenaries’ clutches—all while trying to sort out their romantic tangle."

Here's the blurb of Il desiderio del genio, which is the Italian translation of Genie's Wish:

"Serie Sollevando il Velo. Libro 2

With the previous book in the series, The Wolfing Way, I tackled the magical world of the paranormal. With Genie's Wish, I continue my path in this mysterious place, but instead of two heroes, there are three. Two archaeologists and a genie combined is a recipe for mischief and mayhem, and this adventure set in a ruined lost city delivers on both.

The setting of the story is Majlis al Jinn, the ninth largest cave chamber in the world, a real location favored by base jumpers, though now the cave is mostly off limits. The theme here is getting what you want vs. getting what you want. It's not so easy to reconcile these two views that sound so alike. Be careful what you wish for.... Enjoy!

Four and a Half Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"I’ve never read a Susan Laine book I didn’t like. There is something about the world she creates for her characters that really intrigues me. Between her captivating characters and her creative storylines, I find myself instantly swept up into the lives her characters and before I know it, I’ve finished the book. -- If you are looking for an action packed, sexy romance between three sexy heroes, then Genie’s Wish is definitely the book for you!"

Four Star Review by The Romance Reviews:

"A generally well written paranormal adventure, GENIE'S WISH is a delightful addition to Susan Laine's Lifting the Veil series. The three lead characters have chemistry; a sexy ménage à trois that's hot enough to set the majority of their scenes on fire. The humor and fast pace kept me engaged up until the ending scene, when the tone suddenly struggled between emotional and erotic. Overall, it was an enjoyable story, with few editing errors, and a happy-ever-after that's sure to make reader's romantic wishes come true!"

This book, Hunter's Moon, released on Feb 20, 2013. This is a paranormal M/M romance thriller, the third in the Lifting the Veil series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"Lifting the Veil: Book Three

Ten years ago, the Great Unveiling revealed the presence of supernatural beings living on Earth, but not all humans know much about them—or care about them as anything other than a paycheck.

Kieran Knight is a freelance mercenary who hunts mythical beings for money. He abducts a man called Gabriel King, intending to turn him over to his client. But Gabriel isn’t any ordinary cowboy. He’s a powerful werewolf and the beta of his pack—and as he and Kieran soon discover, he is also Kieran’s mate.

Kieran knows next to nothing about how mating works, and he isn’t gay—but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel the chemistry heating up between them. To save Gabriel, Kieran orchestrates an escape, but his clients won’t give up their werewolf without a fight."

Here's the blurb of La luna del cacciatore, which is the Italian translation of Hunter's Moon:

"Seguito di Il desiderio del genio
Serie Sollevando il Velo. Libro 3

Five Star Review by The Romance Reviews:

"A sexy page-turner from start to finish, HUNTER'S MOON made me want to howl! -- HUNTER'S MOON brings back characters I first fell in love with while reading THE WOLFING WAY. The King family returns while continuing to search for their mates, support each other, and adapt to the disruptions brought about by the Great Unveiling. A fast-paced, action-packed, M/M paranormal romance that returns to the roots of the series, HUNTER'S MOON was a pleasure to read. Five stars for a well-developed story line, continuously evolving characters, and steamy romance on the run!"

Four and a Half Star Review by Joyfully Jay:

"Hunter’s Moon continues exploring the world Laine created two books ago where the “veil” has been lifted between the human world and the shifter/monster world. -- Hunter’s Moon was decidedly different from the first two novels in this series. Rather than spend more time evolving and crafting the world she created, Laine opts to focus solely on a love story, a “gay for you” shifter story, and I must admit, an impressive foray into this subject area. This was sensitively written, character and action driven, and plausible on the whole. -- Hunter’s Moon is, I think, the best installment thus far in the series. It had a bit of action, tense moments, and a beautiful love story that kept you guessing till the end. For fans of this series, I believe you will be most pleased with this latest installment. I know I was!"

Four Star Review by Literary Nymphs Reviews:

"The plot illustrates greed as the main theme. -- I found Hunter's Moon particularly enjoyable. The impressive saga illustrates honorable main characters, betrayal, delusional characters along with deadly conflicts."

Review by Joyfully Reviewed:

"Compelling characters bring Hunter’s Moon to life with intense emotion and passion.  The intriguing relationship between Gabriel and Kieran will captivate fans of the series and new readers alike.  Hunter’s Moon is a character driven tale fraught with danger and a sensual awakening.  This standalone story is sure to have readers clamoring for more as soon as possible."

This book, Monsters Under the Bed, released on Oct 23, 2013. This is a paranormal M/M murder mystery romance, the fourth in the Lifting the Veil series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

In a world where the Veil lifted a decade ago and exposed mythical beings living among humans, Sam faces a big challenge as the mystery surrounding the case deepens.

The inheritors of Mo’s fortune—the uncle, the butler, the nanny, and the bodyguard—all possess secrets, and some are willing to protect them at any cost. The trouble is that Sam’s partner and lover, Rex Ford, is suddenly under suspicion as well.

Clouded by doubt, Sam continues to search for answers as tapestries of crimes begin to unravel and powers beyond his imagination are unleashed. If Mo endured horrific nightmares about monsters under his bed, there’s no telling what dangers await a nosy PI. What dangers lurk in this darkness? Sam is about to find out."

Monsters Under the Bed won 1st place in the 2014 Rainbow Awards in the Gay Paranormal Romance category.

Five Star Review by Joyfully Jay:

"With each story borne from this earth she dreamed into existence, Laine solidifies her standing as an intriguing storyteller.  From that incredible imagination now comes a new installment, Monsters Under The Bed. -- Oh how I wish I could tell you more about this story, but honestly to do so would be to spoil the fun you would have in reading this incredibly well crafted little gem.  I was so impressed by the way in which author Susan Laine layered each aspect of this mystery.  With an eye for the magical and a bit of Greek mythology thrown in for good measure, the characters in this story took surprising shape. -- I am a huge mystery fan and I must tell you that this story had me guessing right up to the surprising reveal at the end.  When I looked back at passages I had highlighted for this story, I began to see the trail of breadcrumbs the author had so carefully laid out for me to follow.  But this was no clumsily written detective story, no; in fact, it was quite a shocker of an ending that left me shaking my head in awe of Laine’s clever story telling abilities. The novella Monsters Under The Bed by Susan Laine has it all in my opinion.  A fantasy world created with just enough realism to make it work, a twisting and surprising mystery that holds you involved to the very end, and a sweet romance with some very hot sex thrown in for good measure.  I highly recommend this novella to you."

Five Star Review by Literary Nymphs Reviews:

"Monsters Under the Bed is the fourth book in the Lifting the Veil series. The multifaceted plot is well written. The characters are creditable. -- As the mystery unfolds Sam realizes that the monsters are not always of the mystical variety waiting to terrify individuals. Humans can be monsters hiding in plain sight until they reveal the evil lurking behind their pleasant facade. -- Monsters Under the Bed also features interludes of sizzling intimacy between Sam and Ford as well as a brief moment of humor brought on by a random cupid attack. Susan Laine has created a superb romantic suspense saga blending engaging characters with an exceptionally enjoyable detailed plot."

Four Star Review by Live Your Life, Buy The Book:

WARNING: Spoilers in the review!

"Despite jumping into the series at book four I had no trouble following this story. It was an interesting mystery. Actually, it was two mysteries, one of which was interesting and one of which was obvious. -- About halfway through the book I was wondering what was romantic about an established couple with one of them investigating a mystery that the other is loosely involved in. I simply needed to wait. That’s why you have to read the whole book to understand it, apparently. While interviewing the suspects to ascertain if Mo’s death was accident, homicide, or suicide Sam did a lot of thinking about Mo’s life that was very heartfelt and touching. This was the selling point of the book for me. Sam’s thoughts on how heartbreaking it would be if Mo had killed himself and believed he had been unloved when he had around him true friends. The emotions of the characters were so genuine. I will say I was impressed by the depth of emotion shown by the characters of a short novel with an ensemble cast and a relatively un-mysterious mystery."

Four Star Review by GayListBookReviews:

"This is a well written mythical murder mystery and is the fourth book in the Lifting the Veil series. Although I’ve not read any of the first three books in this series, I enjoyed this read and it works well as a standalone. It’s a magical mystery with a great blending of human and mythical characters. -- A great cast of characters, with a good feel of their emotions. A murder investigation with gripping twists and turns with no loose ends that’ll leave you scratching your head, all tied up beautifully."

5 Star Review by Diverse Reader:

"The main characters of this story are thief extraordinaire Finn and Cameron, a rare breed of half dragon half elf. This was an enemies to lovers book. And then it was so much more. Finn comes to Cameron's lair to steal something important. Cameron isn't thrilled and of course shows Finn a bit of karma. In the midst of all that the thing Finn came to take, gets stolen. Cameron and Finn have a slow burn romance. But what a romance they have. Their intimacy was poetic and filled with breathtaking emotion. They were like a dance. Sex scenes become monotonous at times but Susan really kept them engaging. No I never wanted to skim. I was very much involved in their moments. This is also a very suspenseful book, nail biting at times. The characters really were flawless. Finn with his strong will and determination made him just as magical as Cameron. Susan took this paranormal romance to new and genius levels. The creativity behind these characters and plot were amazing."

5 Star Review by Rainbow Book Reviews:

"What a fantastic addition to the series! -- A human and a dragon have never worked this closely together, and many of their differences in attitude and outlook make things difficult for them. But they agree on the objective of their quest, and they are attracted to each other, so they begin to work it out. They both have a lot of learning and growing to do, but Finn’s tone of voice and his sense of humor make that a very entertaining process. Add all the special information and the glorious locations for this paranormal action/adventure, and what you have, in my opinion, is a real winner. -- I think it’s the best in the series so far."

5 Star Review by Coffee Time Romance:

"I absolutely ADORED Stealing Dragon's Heart by Susan Laine. I loved the premise of a master thief and an ancient dragon shifter getting together. The way Ms. Laine put together this fantasy world is some of the best world building I have had the pleasure to read. Couple that with the erotic dance between Finn and Cameron and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series. If you love fantasy and m/m romance, you simply have to read this book!"

4.5 Star Review by Sinfully MM Book Reviews:

"I really enjoyed Stealing Dragon's Heart. The author created a wonderfully detailed world, suspending my disbelief. -- I love the camaraderie between the five guardians and Finn as they work together to save the Shard. All of the places they travel to are unique and vivid. There is a cool twist that I hadn't predicted involving Finn (I won't give it away), but it made the pieces fall together nicely. I'm giving Stealing Dragons Heart four and a half stars because it's extremely well written and the author truly weaves a great story with magnificent imagery, taking us on a colorful adventure. For lovers of Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, I would definitely recommend this book."

4.5 Star Review by Literary Nymphs Reviews:

"Susan Laine’s Stealing Dragon’s Heart is an intense and enjoyable saga. The characters as well as the action are very impressive. The intimacy scenes are volatile."

4 Star Review by The Novel Approach:

"There were some genuinely marvelous moments in Susan Laine’s novel Stealing Dragon’s Heart, the sixth installment in her Lifting the Veil series. The slow building heat between Finn and Cameron was done so well. -- Also, the race to get to the shards before they fell to the shadow walker’s hands kept me on the edge of my seat, particularly when Finn had to fight her and, ultimately, lose. I loved Finn’s grit and determination. -- The plot was riveting and moved rapidly—the action was so well choreographed, particularly with each new paranormal introduced. -- Stealing Dragon’s Heart was a slow building romance surrounded by a fierce, fast moving plotline."

4 Star Review by Multitasking Momma:

"This is a mystery with a substantial dose of action-packed goodness. Reading it is much like watching a Lara Craft film or even The Phantom what with the race to apprehend the cartel of paranormals who want to rule the world. It was a fun read. -- I would recommend this to those who love paranormal plots with a lot of action. It is a fun read and well worth the time for it is bulky ~ something that I know have many been wishing for ~ a big read."

4 Star Review by Love Bytes Reviews:

"I’ve read every single book in this series so far and loved every one of them. This one is very different than the others though. First of all it’s longer, and secondly it’s way more complicated. But what strikes me as different the most is the way the story is set up. In Asia, with a LOT of Asian philosophy, language and history (either fantasy or real) it makes for an interesting read. -- My opinion first; I loved the characters, the setting, the world-building and emotions. -- I can see how amazingly the author has worked these sayings into the story. It gives it more of a classy feel, a higher standard. It’s great if you want to read something that’s not all fluff. -- So yes, it’s a wonderful story, full of adventure and mystery, of angst and excitement. I have absolutely no regrets reading this, and I will keep reading this series."

"Finn is a fun character to read about cause he never shuts up and he’s the type of hero you cheer for. -- I liked the world build up -- I’ve been keeping up with the Lifting The Veil series and this book entertained me just like the other 5 books. I’m looking forward to #7."
